Quality Plasma TV Stands Can Protect Monitor Investment

Filed Under (Accessories) by Richard on 19-07-2008

When you are going to spend possibly thousand of dollars on a new plasma television, there is no sense in skimping on the price of plasma TV stands. You are going to want something that will hold this expensive monitor in an upright position, without fear of it falling over and being destroyed. The larger the screen the more security you will want in knowing the unit is not going wobble and potentially fall down if someone bumps the plasma TV stands on which it is located.

Depending on the size of your new television monitor, it can be made to stand on the floor, on plasma TV stands on the floor or hung on the wall. One of the disadvantages of hanging the set on the wall is routing the cable or satellite wires as well as surround sound speaker wires through the wall, or have them showing as they trail from the floor to the back of the unit. If using an entertainment system stand that includes spaces for DVD player or television channel tuner, you will want to make sure it is large enough to handle the size of your monitor.

History: University of Illinois professors Donald Bitzer, Gene Slottow, and then-graduate student Robert Wilson, invented the first plasma television in 1964. These gentlemen used regular cathode-ray picture tube television sets as computer monitors for their in-house computer network, although they knew that this display, which has to constantly refresh, was not the optimal medium for displaying computer graphics. After countless hours of research, they built the first plasma display panel, which only had one cell. Today’s plasma TVs use millions of cells.

A Plasma Televisions Buyer’s Guide: Why go plasma?

Filed Under (About Plasma TV, Plasma TV, Reviews) by Richard on 17-05-2008

The Fact! Because the technology is there. In 1996, the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) enacted legislation compelling the nation’s 1600+ television stations to change the way they broadcast their programming-i.e., to start transmitting it digitally. This has allowed the media to offer digital broadcasts in parallel with their existing analog ones, giving consumers the opportunity to watch regular TV while they make the switch to DTV. Thus began the rise of digital television (DTV) in America. For now, the FCC has allocated an additional channel spectrum to the media.

And DTV will be the new standard in broadcasting. Sure, you’ll still be able to watch your favorite shows in analog like always, but you’ll need to “update” your existing TV with a device that converts digital signals into analog ones. Once the transition to digital is complete-by the year 2006 or by the time 85% of US households get digital feeds, whichever occurs later-the federal government will auction off the original analog channel spectrum. All of which begs the question: Why not just go with the digital flow?
